With borrowing rates lower than they were at their recent peaks, premium financing is attracting renewed attention. Banks are promoting it as a way to fund a large insurance premium while committing less of your own capital upfront.
The appeal is easy to see: retain more cash for other needs, while the policy’s illustrated benefits may appear to exceed the cost of borrowing. But those two figures can change in different ways. Loan interest remains payable even if the policy’s non-guaranteed bonuses fall, and a lower borrowing rate today does not mean it will stay low throughout the policy.

– When does the policy begin paying out, and who pays the loan interest until then?
